FAQ One

What happens when you put petrol into diesel?

Diesel engines are lubricated by the diesel itself. If you have put petrol into diesel pump it can damage the pump as the parts rub against each other. We recommend that you do not start your car after putting petrol into diesel or diesel into petrol.

If you start the car it will instantly pump the wrong fuel into your engine. You will have to bring your vehicle to a garage after putting petrol into diesel or diesel into petrol. This may result in have to get new parts at a large cost to you. If you put petrol into diesel or diesel into petrol and call us before starting the car we can drain the fuel and dispose in an environmental safe way.

FAQ Two

What happens when you put diesel into petrol?

Petrol is much easier to ignite than diesel so if you put diesel into petrol engine it will smoke rather than ignite like the petrol will. Diesel needs a compression 5 to 10 times greater than petrol does. This then heats air in the cylinders and triggers ignition. When diesel goes into a petrol engine it does not have sufficient heat to ignite properly. When you have diesel in petrol we can drain the fuel away and you can then fill up with the correct fuel with no damage to your vehicle.

Petrol into a diesel engine burns immediately therefore the engine is left without the lubricant provided by diesel and can seriously damage your engine.

FAQ Three

What parts are affected when you put diesel into petrol?

A petrol engine with a carburettor would be extremely difficult to start as the diesel will not vaporise in the carburettor and nothing would flow into the jets. The petrol would not lubricate the pump and as the metal parts of the pump move against each other this may lead to having to replace the pump. Modern petrol engines have gas sensors and temperature probes. If you put diesel into a petrol engine these all may have to be replaced.

FAQ Four

What parts are affected when you put petrol into diesel?

Because petrol into a diesel engine will ignite so quickly (pre-ignition) the high compression of the diesel engine will cause large amounts of pressure back on the diesel pump. The petrol in the diesel tank will overheat the pistons and valves and given time will possibly warp the cylinder head.

FAQ Five

How long does it take to pump out the wrong fuel from my car and how much does it cost?

Once we are on site most vehicles can be repaired within one hour. Some can take longer but the customer will be advised of this before commencing any work.

Our Charge is 200euro(Plus VAT) for the standard call out and fuel evacuation. We Accept Credit Cards.

FAQ Six

Can I try and suck out the wrong fuel or can it be harmful to the body?

Trying to suck the wrong fuel from your vehicle is extremely dangerous and we strongly recommend you refrain from doing this. According to the World health organisation website – (www.who.int) the ingestion of petrol or diesel is a major health risk. If you have pumped petrol into diesel or diesel into diesel the safest and environmentally friendly way to remove the wrong fuel is to have us drain and flush out your engine

FAQ Seven

Is the correct disposal of fuel important to the environment?

Yes– if you have pumped petrol into diesel or diesel into petrol it is very important that when the wrong fuel has been removed that it is disposed of safely to protect our environment. We have all seen the horrific effects of oil tanker spills in the ocean but it is important to remember that on a smaller scale the effects are still horrifying. We feel it is important to remove the wrong fuel and dispose of it correctly. If petrol or diesel is spilled it immediately begins to breakdown as its’ physical and chemical properties change. This impact on both plants and animals, by contaminating food sources of the smallest animals, has a huge affect on the food chain and can take years to recover. If you have put diesel into petrol or petrol into diesel we remove the wrong fuel and dispose of it correctly. Please report all oil spillages to the environmental protection agency.

FAQ Eight

Is it possible to fit larger diesel nozzle in a petrol car?

Although the diesel nozzle has a greater diameter than the petrol tank filler neck it is still possible to pump diesel into a petrol car, and statistics in the UK show that 20,000 incidents of diesel into a petrol car happen annually. If you have made the mistake of putting diesel into your petrol engine we recommend that you do not start the vehicle. Just call us at wrong fuel and we can have you back on the road in no time.
